After a long winter everything is a bit rusty. The chains on our bikes, even our joints. It's not exactly a pleasant feeling. So chop, chop, getting back in shape. When? Right away.

But first of all, take a good look at your fitness after the winter. For the first six weeks you should opt for regular low-intensity workouts. You need to get used all your joints to the load, your spine, the sitting part and the wrists will suffer for sure. Choose easy, undemanding routes to start with, with little elevation. You can gradually increase the load. And when you get in shape, you can go for a ride. Where to? We've prepared some tips for interesting cycling routes all over Slovakia that you can try right away.

Cycle from the Atlantic to the Black Sea. The 3,633 km route is the so-called Eurovelo 6, which connects the French coast with Romania. It runs along the Loire River, part of the Saône, a short stretch of the upper Rhine and joins the Danube in Germany. From there it runs along its riverside to the Romanian town of Constanta. Part of Eurovel 6 is the Slovak so-called Danube Route, which follows the Danube from Bratislava to Štúrovo. The entire route measures 157 km, is pleasantly flat with an asphalt surface, and along the way you can make a stop, for example, in the Lužne Forests, at the Gabčíkovo waterworks, or the anti-Turkish fortress in Komárno.

Seventy kilometres and eleven villages. Don't you know what we are talking about? Well, the Hnilecká magistrála, which runs through the Hnilecká valley. It connects two important tourism centres - the southern part of the Slovak Paradise National Park with the artificial water reservoir Ružín. This route is not difficult, it mostly runs on flat terrain, with minimal elevation gain. On the route you can take a bath in Palcmanská Maša (also known as Dedinky), visit the manor house in Hnilec, several former mining villages - in the village of Gelnica and the mining museum. Some sections of the route are suitable for mountain bikes.

For passionate cyclists, for whom the natural surface and elevation is not an obstacle, we recommend less than 80 km called Cyklomagistrála Liptov - Horehronie - Gemer. The route starts in Liptovský Hrádek. If you want to diversify your trip, you can visit the nearby Liptovská Mara with the Tatralandia Aquapark, more demanding tourists may also be tempted by the climb to Kriváň. In Tisovec, the steam cog railway, which has been running here since the end of the 19th century, is a great attraction. This cultural monument is the only one of its kind in the whole of Europe. The Muránska Planina National Park is also worth a visit. The highway ends in the village of Hrachovo. In the surroundings of this village you can visit the Teplý vrch water reservoir or one of the many lookout towers around.
